Picton Fly Out June 16 & 17 2001

Saturday June 16th saw the weather closing in so an early departure from Smiths Falls was called for. Don and Ivy along with Gary and Connie left first in NZF. They were followed by Floyd and Dianne in NUK plus Douglas and Barbara in LIN twenty minutes later. Gary and Don gave updated weather enroute, as LIN tracked inbehind NUK. Very little rain was encountered but we did have some turbulence. The weather improved past Kingston with the sun coming out on arrival at Picton. Our group was met by Mr. Stokes, president of the Picton Flying Club and driven to the Tip Of The Bay Hotel. Lunch at the hotel was first on the to-do list. Afterwards an afternoon walk down main street Picton with the sun shining called for icecream at Superscoops. We had dinner at Currah's Cafe and Restaurant which was excellent and if you get out to Picton you should try a meal there. Sunday morning saw the group checked out and ready to head back to the Picton airport at 9:00 AM. A word of warning, when calling for a taxi to the airport, make sure they understand that it is the Picton Airport and not Toronto International, which is where they tried to take us. After a hearty breakfast at the airport and visiting with the members from Smiths Falls that came on Sunday, our small group left Picton near noon. The flight back was nice with just a little turbulence at 2000 ft. We had a very nice trip and eveing at Picton with Floyd & Dianne, Don & Ivy, Gary & Connie and Iook forward to doing something similar next year.

Biplane WWII Trainer comes home CGLRV
Very nice paint job on this little Renegade Spirit. At one time you would have seen many airplanes similar to this one calling Picton home. Dale and Cathy in CGLRV taxi to leave Picton, first of many from Smiths Falls to arrive Sunday morning. In the background you can see one of the WWII hangars.
