Welcome to the Smiths Falls Flying Club
Flight Training Program Outline
This brochure provides an outline of the courses of flight instruction offered by the Smiths Falls
Flying Club. The cost estimates reflect the minimum requirements for licensing and may not
account for books, materials, and delays encountered during the training process. The rates for
instruction, aircraft rental and study material are reviewed periodically and revised accordingly.
The Smiths Falls Flying Club operates from the Smiths Falls/Montague (Russ Beach) Airport
(CYSH) approximately 25 nm southwest of Ottawa, Ontario. This certified airport offers a safe and
efficient learning environment for flight training. Ground delays and long transits to training areas
associated with Ottawa International Airport do not exist at Smiths Falls. The flight training unit
operates two Cessna 172 aircraft certified for VFR and IFR training.
The airport is certified for day, night, VFR and IFR operations. The runway is 4000’ by 75’,
oriented 24/06 and is equipped with medium intensity lighting including APAPI. Airport facilities
include forty two hangars and the field is home to approximately sixty aircraft. Fuel facilities
include a fully automated 24 hour self serve outlet for aviation fuel (100LL). The flying club
operates the airport on behalf of the municipalities of Smiths Falls and Montague Township.
The flight instructors at the Smiths Falls Flying Club have many years of instructing experience
gained on a wide variety of aircraft and roles including civil, military, aerobatic, instrument flight
and international operations. They will do everything they can to make your training worthwhile
and enjoyable.
Membership dues in the club are:
• Student $50/year (plus 5% GST)
• Associate $90/year (plus 5% GST)
Aircraft rental rates are:
• Licensed pilot solo $105.00/hour (plus GST/PST)
• Licensed pilot dual $137.00/hour (plus GST/PST) - Includes $32.00 air instruction
• Student solo $110.00/hour (plus GST)
• Student dual training $142.00/hour (plus GST) - Includes $32.00 air instruction.
• Air & ground instruction $32.00/hour (plus GST)
• Multi day cross country trips $76.00/hour (plus GST/PST)

A copy of the Study and Reference Guide and Flight Test Standard for the applicable course of
