Private Pilot Licences
Private Pilot Licences are available for airplanes and helicopters. These licences are valid for flying Canadian Certified aircraft internationally.

Recreational Pilot Permit

Requirements:

• Student must be at least 14 years of age and meet medical category 1, 3 or 4.
• Applicant must obtain not less than 60% in each of four mandatory subject areas of the
   RPPAE written examination.
• A minimum of 25 hours of flight training of which 15 hours shall be dual instruction,
   including 2 hours dual cross country, and 5 hours solo flight time
• The applicant must be 16 years of age to obtain the permit.
• Pass a flight test with a Pilot Examiner

Private Pilot - Aeroplane

Requirements:

• Student must be at least 14 years of age and meet medical category 1 or 3
• 40 hours of ground school and obtain not less than 60% in each of four mandatory subject
   areas of PPAER written examination
• A total of 45 hours of flight training including the following
     17 hours dual instruction including a minimum of
       3 hours dual cross country
       5 hours dual instrument, and
     12 hours solo flight including a minimum of
       5 hours solo cross country
• applicant must be at least 17 years of age to obtain the license
• Pass a flight test with a Pilot Examiner

Commercial Pilot License

Requirements:

• Licence applicant must be 18 years of age, possess medical category 1, and hold a Private
   Pilot Licence (PPL-A)
• 40 hours of commercial pilot ground school and obtaining at least 60% on the CPAER
   written examination
• applicant shall have 200 hours flight time including 100 hours pilot in command, at least 20
   hours of which must be cross country
• 65 hours of commercial pilot flight training including not less than
      - 35 hours dual instruction including not less than
                5 hours cross country
                5 hours dual night (including 2 hours cross country)
              20 hours dual instrument time
       - 30 hours solo flight time including not less than
              25 hours advanced solo (including a 300 nm cross country)
                5 hours solo night
 Pass a flight test with a Pilot Examiner

       10 hours dual instrument flight time

         5 hours may be instrument ground time in an approved Flight Training Device (FTD)

Instrument Rating:

 Requirements:

• Obtain at least 70% on INRAT written examination
• 50 hours cross country flight experience as pilot in command
• 40 hours instrument time, including
       - maximum of 20 hours instrument ground time (Simulator or FTD)
       - 5 hours dual from a flight instructor
       - 15 hours dual instrument from a qualified person (instructor or commercial pilot)
       - one dual cross country flight of at least 100 NM with approaches to minimums at two
         different locations
• pass an instrument rating flight test with a Pilot Examiner

       - 5 hours dual in teaching instrument flight
       - 5 hours maximum instrument ground time (Simulator or FTD)
Pass a flight test with a Pilot Examiner
